Rover Driving Academy:
Explore the Moon with Camp STEAM Canada
3, 2, 1 BLAST OFF! During summer camp 2025, campers across all Camp STEAM Canada locations during select weeks will have the extraordinary opportunity to participate in the Rover Driving Academy, a hands-on lunar exploration experience developed in partnership with the Canadian Space Agency, Mission Control, and the Pinnguaq Association.
Campers will become part of a lunar research team, remotely operating a real rover on a simulated lunar surface. They’ll explore lunar science topics such as geology, tidal locking, lunar phases, and rover operations. Working in teams of five, each camper will take on a specific role—Science, Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) Operator, Driver, Navigation, or Safety—collaborating to complete various missions within the simulation. Campers will also have the chance to switch roles, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of each aspect of the mission.
Excited for your camper to be part of this experience? We are only able to offer the Rover Driving Academy during select weeks at each location. See below or visit your nearest Camp STEAM Canada location page for details as to which week the Rover Driving Academy will be available, and register for camp as soon as you can to make sure you secure your future astronaut’s spot!

Our 2024 Lunar Rover Experience
During summer camp 2024, three of our Camp STEAM locations had the opportunity to participate in The Rover Driving Academy. They were able to explore lunar science and execute space missions covering a variety of exciting topics like lunar geology, tidal locking, lunar phases, and rover operations.
Throughout the activity, campers were encouraged to work together to control their rover and do a variety of different missions within the simulation. Campers switched driving roles as well, so each had the opportunity to try out the various aspects of their mission.
Campers thought this rare opportunity was out of this world! We’re delighted at Camp STEAM to bring these unique opportunities to our campers to experience just one of the out-of-this-world careers that STEAM areas of study have to offer!
