Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to Camp STEAM! Below are answers to our most frequently asked questions related to summer camp 2026. You will also find some location-specific FAQs on the webpage for each location. If you don’t find the answer to your question, we’re here to help:

General Information

What ages can come to Camp STEAM?

Campers must be no younger than 6 years of age and no older than 13 years of age on July 6, 2026 to be eligible to attend camp this season.

If your camper is younger than 6 or older than 13 as of that date, camp options will not be available for selection in the registration process.

Unfortunately, exceptions cannot be made as programming and camp structure is designed for campers around ages 6 – 13 years.

Can I review your entire 2026 Camp STEAM Guide?

Of course – please select the camp guide for your province:

–  Camp STEAM Canada Guide 2026, Ontario
–  Camp STEAM Canada Guide 2026, Alberta
–  Camp STEAM Canada Guide 2026, British Columbia

What is your policy for special needs children?

We try very hard to accommodate special needs children where we can. There is no strict policy regarding special needs children as several factors depend on our ability to provide an environment suitable to them. Suitability and capabilities vary from site to site. Therefore, if you have a special needs child and they wish to come to Camp STEAM, please contact us and we will review each case independently. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer 1:1 care for special needs campers.

Do you offer half day programs? Can my child enroll for 3 of the 5 days in a week?

Unfortunately, we do not offer half day enrollment or part time enrollment. While it is your choice to only send your child for half a day or a few times a week, there is no price discount. The full enrollment fee will apply.

Do you have a lost and found?

All lost and found items will be kept at camp until the end of the last week of camp, at which time they will be donated to a local charity if unclaimed. They will not be shipped back to Head Office. Camp STEAM Canada strongly recommends that you label everything and check the Lost and Found area daily to ensure that your camper returns home with their belongings.

How many counsellors are at camp?

Typically, we have 1 counsellor for every 7 children, though some variations apply. If volunteer CIT’s (Counsellors-In-Training) apply they are most welcome as well. Each camp location has a Camp Coordinator, a Program Coordinator and regular counsellors.

Where do you find your counsellors?

The majority of our counsellors are university and college students looking for summer employment (and a few secondary school students are hired each year, as well). We also employ teachers who want to do something in the summer, and graduates of teacher colleges. A recent Vulnerable Sector Police Check is a mandatory requirement for all counsellors. There will be at least one counsellor present at each camp location with their First Aid certification at all times.

What locations are you running in summer 2026?

Camp STEAM has locations all over Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia for summer camp 2026! You can see all our locations for summer camp 2025 here.

Are all your locations air conditioned?
To know if your location has air conditioning, visit that page on our website (see all our locations here), scroll to the bottom, and in the location-specific FAQs we will post that information. The activities your children are involved in are of an academic nature and not strenuous. We will conduct activities under the shade of trees or in front of fans if it is hot but will not be refunding due to the weather being hot in the summer.
How do I register for summer camp?

Project Information

Are the projects for boys and girls?

Absolutely! When selecting themes for each summer, we strive to ensure projects appeal to all campers. Themes are based on the interests of campers 6-13 years old.

All our projects are created with both our male and female campers in mind. It is also important to note that while all projects relate to the weekly theme, more importantly, they are all STEAM-based and gender-neutral.

If your camper is interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math, they will enjoy their week with us regardless of the theme! Read more about our themes and projects.

Are there lots of different projects for the kids?

Yes! We make sure that there are a lot of projects and options to ensure the campers are always busy learning and having fun! Many of our projects have extensions available if a camper needs a bit more of a challenge as well.

A Day at Camp

What are the Camp STEAM hours?

Our camp program operates from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.

We also offer early drop off starting at 7:30 a.m. and late pick up until 5:30 p.m. You can add this extended before care and/or extended after care to your cart at checkout when you register for camp, or purchase it later if you prefer.  Before care is $40 for 5-day camp weeks ($32 for 4 day weeks), and after camp care is also $40 for 5-day camp weeks ($32 for 4 day weeks).  Please note, only entire weeks (not individual days) can be purchased.

Do you offer before and after camp care?

Yes! We recognize guardian work days sometimes extend beyond our 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. camp day, and so we offer extended care. Early drop off starts at 7:30 a.m. and late pick up is offered until 5:30 p.m.

What does a typical day look like?

The first day of camp is an exciting and busy day. Some children will be experiencing nervousness about what to expect at camp, who they’re going to meet, and will they like it!? We get it!

On the first day, we encourage you to arrive a bit early (we suggest between 8:30 am and 9:00 am) on the first day only. This will allow parents and children time to acquaint themselves with the drop off/pick up location and procedures. This is a great time to meet one of the camp leaders and counsellors, ask questions you may have and request special groupings with friends/siblings/cousins, etc…

For anyone who has booked Before Care, early drop off is 7:30am – 9:00am. If you are running behind and will arrive after 9:00am to the campsite, please call our Support team (in Ontario: 226-214-2050, in BC: 236-317-4208, in Alberta: 587-855-7300; and press 1 for Parents/Guardians) and our team will notify the camp. Most facilities will have their doors locked after programming begins at 9:00am, this is for security reasons. Alternatively, if you need to pick up your child(ren) from camp prior to the end of programming at 4:00pm, we also ask that you call our Support team or notify camp leadership when you drop off your child(ren) at the start of the day.

Programming concludes at 4:00pm and the pick-up process begins.

After Care service is provided from 4:00pm – 5:30pm and is available for purchase through the camp registration process, or by calling our Support team to have it added to your account.

Please find a sample schedule below of what a day in the life of a camper looks like at Camp STEAM Canada. Many hands-on activities are designed to be conducted outdoors in green spaces surrounding facilities. Please note, staff will often take campers to local parks for outdoor fun and games. Staff follow strict safety protocols when taking campers off site.

What should my camper bring to camp?

It is important that all campers come prepared for a full day of great activities and fun. Please be sure your camper has the following items every day:

  • Lunch and snacks are provided by parents/guardians, Camp STEAM does not provide food to campers. There is one lunch period and 2 snack breaks, where children will have an opportunity to eat, refresh and play games. We encourage parents to pack nut free lunches and snacks (we are a nut aware camp, not a nut free camp, unless the site is nut free, which will be noted on that location’s page on our website). Be sure to read the section on allergies and restrictions later in this document. There is absolutely no sharing of food allowed at Camp STEAM. Please send reusable containers as garbage items will be sent home with your camper.
  • A towel and bathing suit or water clothes for water games (note that we may participate in water activities on each day of camp).
  • A plastic bag to put wet towels, shoes and clothes in before it goes in the backpack.
  • Water bottle
  • Pencil case containing basic school supplies (pencils, erasers, scissors, markers and/or pencil crayons)
  • Weather appropriate, comfortable clothing (packing a change of clothing is also advisable)
  • Closed toe and heel shoes must be worn to comply with camp safety rules (preferably running shoes)
  • Aerosol sunscreen to comply with camp safety rules in case your child needs assistance in its application
(in addition to bringing sunscreen, please ensure to apply it prior to arriving at camp in the morning as well)
  • Bug spray
  • Hat and sunglasses
  • Any doctor prescribed medications (Camp STEAM staff will not administer medications except in the case of a life-threatening situation such as administering an EpiPen which is provided by the parent)

Please do not bring toys to Camp STEAM and please leave all electronic devices (including cellphones) at home. If you need to contact your child, call our Support team:

Ontario: 226-214-2050
BC: 236-317-4208
Alberta: 587-855-7300

We will contact the camp to relay messages or plan for your child to call you if it is urgent.

Does my camper need to bring a device with them to camp?

No, campers will not need to (and we request that they do not) bring any devices to camp. We are very pleased to provide a laptop for all campers at our Camp STEAM locations. This ensures all campers have equal access for all camp activities.

What do sign in and sign out procedures look like?

To ensure their safety, all campers must be signed in at the time of drop off and signed out at the time of pick up, by their guardian. Guardians must indicate the names of the authorized persons for pickup on their online registration form.

Camp STEAM Canada staff will bring the camper(s) to the normal drop off/pick up location and the parent/guardian will be required to sign out their camper(s).

For your child(ren) to be released from camp, the person signing them out must:

  • For the safety of all campers, show a physical  overnment-issued photo ID every time they sign out their child. Digital copies or photos of ID will not be accepted.
  • Acceptable forms of ID include a driver’s license, passport, or health card.
  • If you do not have acceptable ID with you, your child will not be released. To help ensure a smooth and positive pick-up experience, please come prepared with your physical ID each day. Our staff are required to enforce this policy strictly and consistently to protect every camper. Please do not argue with staff who are simply following Camp STEAM Canada’s safety rules and doing their best to keep your child safe — we will gladly wait while you retrieve your physical ID.
  • This rule applies regardless of how well you know the staff or how many times you have previously picked up your child. All approved pick-up persons must be 18 years of age or older — no exceptions.
  • Anyone picking up a camper — regardless of their relationship to the child(ren) — must be listed on the Approved Pick-Up List. This list is located on the “Household Form” within your online account. You completed this form when registering your child for Camp STEAM Canada, and you may update it at any time by logging in to your account and selecting the “Household Form” link. The same safety rules apply to all parents and guardians.

We take the care and safety of your child(ren) very seriously. Under no circumstance will a child be permitted to leave camp without being signed out by an authorized adult that has verified their identification by showing a physical copy of government issued photo ID.

Campers Leaving Camp (Signing themselves out)

For the safety of all participants, campers are not permitted to leave the camp location at any time without permission. If a camper leaves the premises without authorization, Camp STEAM Canada staff will immediately contact the parent or guardian to inform them of the situation.

Depending on the age and circumstance, a staff member may need to physically intervene to prevent a child from leaving camp and entering a potentially dangerous situation. Please understand that this action would only be taken as a last resort to ensure the child’s safety.

No waivers or exceptions are available to permit a child to walk home alone. Every camper — regardless of age or circumstance — must be signed out by an authorized adult (18 years or older) listed on the Approved Pick-Up List (as above) and everyone must show identification in order to sign out a child.

Should a parent wish to add an authorized person(s) to the approved pick up and drop off list for their child, they may login to their account or call our team:

In Ontario: 226-214-2050

In BC: 236-317-4208

In Alberta: 587-855-7300

How do we know where to drop off and pick up our children?

We post this information on the location pages as soon as we receive it from our partner sites. In the case where Camp STEAM is located at a university or a college this information can take a while to be forwarded to us as they have internal procedures they must follow to make drop off and pick up as seamless as possible for parents. An email is sent prior to the start of each Camp STEAM week to all enrolled parents with this information.

Do you group the kids by ages?

As much as possible, we will be grouping the campers by grade. However, this depends on the camp location and the enrolment of any given week. As a not-for-profit organization, we do not have the means to employ extra staff to break down into smaller groups if we cannot group easily by age or grade. We cannot guarantee the ages of the campers prior to the camp week, nor can we guarantee how they will be grouped.

Health & Safety

Do you administer medication?

If your child requires medication during the camp day, please note that camp staff are not trained or authorized to administer medication of any kind, with limited exceptions. Staff may assist a camper only in the event of a life-threatening medical emergency, such as:

  • The use of an Epinephrine Auto-Injector during a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
  • The use of Glucagon for a camper with Type 1 Diabetes experiencing severe hypoglycemia (very low blood sugar)
  • The use of an inhaler during a severe asthmatic episode

All other medications must be self-administered by the camper or administered by a parent or guardian who returns to the camp for that purpose.

Please note that there are no medically trained personnel (such as doctors or nurses) on site at camp.

Are counsellors certified in First Aid and CPR?

Yes! There is at least one staff member at every site that has their First Aid and CPR certification.

What is your allergy (including nut) policy?

Due to an increase in food related allergies and sensitivities in society, we request parents to take special care when preparing their child’s lunch and snacks.

Camp STEAM Canada is a nut-aware camp. We ask all families to be considerate of campers who may have peanut and/or nut allergies by providing only peanut-free and nut-free items in your child’s lunches and snacks. Your support helps us reduce the risk of exposure and create a safer environment for everyone.

Please note that Camp STEAM Canada staff do not monitor compliance with this request and do not search campers’ backpacks or lunches. Additionally, our camp locations may share facilities with other groups or individuals not affiliated with Camp STEAM Canada, and we cannot control what food they bring.

For these reasons, Camp STEAM Canada should be considered nut-aware rather than nut-free, except in certain locations where specific restrictions apply. Any designated nut-free locations will be clearly identified on the individual camp location pages at campsteam.ca.

What happens if my child is sick?

If your child is exhibiting cold or flu-like symptoms or those of any communicable disease, (ex. Chicken Pox, Pink Eye, Hand Foot & Mouth, Lice, COVID-19, etc.) please do not send your child to camp. Follow public health guidelines and/or direction from a medical professional regarding the appropriate time for your child to return to camp. Absences from camp due to illness are not refundable per the Cancellation and Refund Policy. Please read below for further details.

If your child becomes ill while they’re at camp, you will be contacted to come get them if the camper indicates they can’t make it through the day or are showing physical symptoms of illness, throwing up, pale, etc.

    Cancellations & Refunds

What is your refund and cancellation policy?

    Cancellation – Refund and Credit

This refund policy applies only to new purchases made for the 2026 camp season. It does not apply to camp sessions, services, or merchandise purchased in previous seasons, including any for which credits were previously issued.

    Refund Policy: January 5, 2026, to May 14, 2026

Participants who have purchased camp sessions, services, or merchandise products on or before May 14, 2026, may request a full refund (minus a non-refundable 2.4% processing fee) for any reason, provided the request is made in writing to Head Office on or before May 14, 2026. To request a refund, please contact our Support Team via email at [email protected].

Refund Policy: As of May 15, 2026

Cancellation requests received in writing on or after May 15, 2026, are subject to a $100 cancellation fee per camper, per camp session (plus the non-refundable 2.4% processing fee). This fee will be deducted from the refund amount. Refund requests received after a camp session has begun will not be accepted.

Cancelling Camp Merchandise and Before/After Care

Camp Merchandise and Before and After Care services are refundable at any time, including during the camp season, provided they are cancelled at least one full business day before the start of the camp session for which they were purchased. To cancel Camp Merchandise or Before/After Care services, please contact our Support Team by email at [email protected] or by phone at the number for your province (Ontario: 226-214-2050, BC: 236-317-4208, Alberta: 587-855-7300) to speak with one of our Support team members.

If Camp STEAM Canada must cancel a camp location, session, day, service, or merchandise product (either before or after June 15, 2026), a full refund will be issued to the participant.

Reasons for cancellation may include, but are not limited to, funding availability, low enrolment, insufficient staffing, or supply chain issues. While Camp STEAM Canada makes every effort to finalize these decisions by May 15, 2026, this may not always be possible.

In the unlikely event that Camp STEAM Canada is forced to close due to a government order (e.g., pandemic-related restrictions), participants will receive a credit for the full value of their purchase, which may be applied to the 2027 camp season.

Camp STEAM Canada reserves the right not to issue refunds or credits after a camp session has started, under any circumstances, including but not limited to:

    1. Inclement weather or unforeseen facility closures
    2. Lack of air conditioning in a facility or hot weather conditions
    3. Camper removal due to inappropriate behaviour or parental bullying of Camp STEAM Canada staff
    4. Camper removal due to requiring one-on-one support (Camp STEAM Canada does not provide 1:1 support due to staffing structure)
    5. Failure to disclose a need for one-on-one support or an Educational Assistant (EA) on the camper’s Medical and Behavioural Form at registration
    6. Health or safety situations, including those arising from pandemics, epidemics, or other public health matters
    7. The participant’s decision not to attend for any reason at any time
    8. Unforeseen illness or injury
    9. A camper expressing that they are “not enjoying” Camp STEAM Canada (we encourage parents to speak with staff about strategies to improve the experience; however, not every activity or environment suits every child, and learning to adapt to new experiences is an important life skill)
    10. The camper does not meet the minimum age requirement to attend camp
Can I switch my child/children to a different week?

Participants may transfer to a different camp week by providing at least 7 days’ notice to Head Office. Switching camp locations or weeks is subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed. To request a location or week switch, please contact our Support Team by email at [email protected] or call us at the number for your province (Ontario: 226-214-2050, BC: 236-317-4208, Alberta: 587-855-7300) to speak with one of our Support team members.

What happens if my child comes to Camp STEAM and doesn’t like it after the first day? Do I get a refund?

No. We suggest that parents evaluate their situation closely prior to enrolling their child and that should a situation occur where the child indicates they are not “having fun” or “didn’t learn anything”, strongly encourage them to try their best the next day. Children often focus on one thing during the day they did not like but in actuality they had 10 other positive things happen. Another suggestion would be to discuss the situation with the Camp Coordinator on site as there is often more to the story.

    Payment & Credit Details

    What are my payment options?

Payments can be made by credit card during the registration process. VISA and Mastercard are accepted.

Do you have any subsidies for low income families or single parents?

As a not for profit, Camp STEAM does not have a formal subsidy program as our fees are already at cost. We suggest parents contact their local service clubs and agencies to inquire about existing summer camp subsidy programs. A call to your local MPP and MP offices could also provide some funding ideas.

What is the Credit Card Surcharge?

There is a 2.4% Credit Card Surcharge added to all transactions to cover the fee that payment processors charge. This is a non-refundable fee.

Why do I see "Bambora Internet PSP" on my credit card statement?

Please note, credit card charges may appear on your statement as Bambora Internet PSP, the company that provides payment gateway services to Camp STEAM.

NOTE: Bambora/Worldline is one of the most widely used payment gateways on the Internet. If you have found this page by searching online for a charge you found on your statement, but you have not signed up for camp, the charge you are seeing is most likely not from Camp STEAM.

We can't wait to see you at summer camp 2026. Register today!
